The practical answer

The KD-E20 is purpose-built for this arrangement. It is a qualified match for two Windows laptops whose USB-C ports support DisplayPort 1.4 Multi-Stream Transport (MST), data and charging. It is not a dual-extended-display solution for Macs because macOS mirrors Multi-Stream Transport (MST) displays.
